A path into the working world: My on-the-job training internship experience at Koud

This week has been really enjoyable. When I first arrived, I was a bit nervous, and I believed the Koud team was also a little anxious about my arrival since they didn’t know me yet. I started with an orientation where they showed me where everything is. The drink cabinet was a nice surprise, as I could grab drinks whenever I wanted. The office had a lovely office dog, who I could happily pet throughout the day. The Koud team was really friendly and laid-back. They also made sure to explain any terms I didn’t understand, breaking them down for me.

Earlier in the week, I had the chance to observe the HR and Sales Director’s roles. I got to try office photography, listen to and participate in various meetings, and even watch and listen as an employee prepared for an interview. I learned how to create a CV, looked into employee bike schemes, and learned how Koud’s team is marketed. HR takes care of almost everything, making sure everyone feels good and listens to any concerns. HR is like the “mother figure,” ensuring there are no conflicts and everyone feels at ease. Their job is very social, filled with lots of discussions with people. The Sales Director’s role also involves a lot of speaking. The Sales Director “sells” Koud’s team to other companies and services. The team’s salesperson “sells” the Koud team by comparing the required skills to the team’s abilities.

Next, I got a taste of coding. Coding is surprisingly challenging, especially all the terms involved. I got to read through code, and it was hard to understand much if you don’t know most of the terms, but the Koud team does amazing work.

With the CEO, I got to see what a daily meeting is like and what we usually talk about during one. A daily meeting is basically an update on what you did yesterday, if there were any issues, and what you plan to do today. I also got to try creating a game with the CEO’s help. Creating the game was fun but still relatively challenging and easy at the same time. The CEO makes sure the team doesn’t face problems, and if they do, he helps them figure it out. He also ensures that things keep moving and don’t come to a halt. In this case, he checks that the code works and makes sense.

At the end of the week, we had a body language training session, which was led by the Sales Director. Earlier in the week, there was also a game night I got to attend, which was awesome. The Koud team happily invited me to play a board game, and they taught me how the game works. It was nice to be included. Now, I get to write this article for the website, which is quite nice since I can share what working at Koud looks like from an intern’s perspective. I’ll also be writing descriptions of the leadership team for the website. Of course, this includes taking pictures of the office dog!
